There are more than 15,000 homeless children in South Carolina.
We have served more than 3,000 needy children since 1990 through our early childhood education program, Children's Garden.
What is Children's Garden? Children's Garden is an ABC enhanced, DSS licensed and NAEYC accredited childcare center offering unique and comprehensive child development services.
Who is served? Children's Garden provides quality childcare for young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Clients include children and their families who are homeless, needy, in crisis, in transition and lacking a support system.
What is the mission? Children's Garden seeks to remove the barrier of lack of childcare for families to help them move beyond the crisis and achieve stabilization, while offering a setting for young children that nurtures a sense of belonging and well being.
What are the goals of Children's Garden?
- Provide comprehensive childcare and respite for parents while they secure public assistance, education, training and employment.
- Address children's needs in health, nutrition, social skills, mental health, language development, education, training and safety.
- Provide a warm, nuturing, non-threatening environment that offers love, security, safety and an opportuniy to learn through skilled, sensitive teachers and staff.
- Provide a parent-child focused program where appropriate parentsing skills are modeled and taught.
- Provide a support system for families through counseling and refferals.
- Provide advocacy for children and families at the community, state & federal levels.
- Proved opportunities for volunteerism and community service to create ownership and pride in working with community problems and solutions.
- To be a role model for quality early care and education and educational information for the community.
